How Expensive Are Acne Scar Treatments?

Imagine living with a scar on your face - how would you feel? Pretty awful for sure. But you can go in for treatment for your acne scars. But the million dollar question is, 'How expensive are acne scar treatments?'  The psychological effects of an acne scar are immense - feelings of anger, frustration and low self-esteem persist in a person with acne. Thus it is important to understand the nature of your problem and which acne scar treatments to opt for.

Before going for such treatments, you need to consult a qualified dermatologist who would give you the right guidance and treat your case based on what best suits your skin. Also, most of these treatments are quite expensive, and not covered under health insurance. Ranging from skin grafting, surgeries, and laser and light therapy to fotofacials these acne scar treatments are usually continued for extended periods and as such their costs are relatively higher. So start with the ones, which won’t hurt your pocket greatly like the new treatment of Microdermabrasion, which costs much lesser than the technique of Dermabrasion, for instance.

Apart from home made natural remedies for acne scars, there are some complex processes and treatments that produce the best results in combination with the different techniques. They are the Punch techniques,  laser treatments, subcision, injections and so on. These depend on individual cases and a cosmetologist, and dermatologist should be consulted. Sometimes there are two processes that are combined. These treatments are expensive and for a dermabrasion treatment the charges would be around $1500, per treatment and repeated treatments are necessary. Laser resurfacing would require something around $ 3000 and chemical peels $750 for each sitting. The punch technique requires $50 for each punch and a number of punches are required. There are also varied treatments for mild scars, deep scars and ice pick scars, the price of which are again based on the number of treatments.

For those willing to try out some inexpensive and natural ways to treating your scars, you could begin your treatment with essential oils or try visiting a professional homeopathy doctor. And of course you have some really good old home remedies like:

  • Using lemon juice on the affected area
  • Using a mixture of tomatoes and cucumber as a mask
  • For severe acne scars using this natural mask: 1 tablespoon of sour cream, 1 tablespoon of yogurt, 1 tablespoon of oatmeal, and a few drops of lemon juice. Keep it for ten minutes before rinsing your face. This natural way could prove to be good for the skin in the long run.

These treatments are easy and cost effective.
